Over the years I have constantly been fascinated as to why time does not feel like a constant, depending on the person and experience. Researching this kind of question and similar have brought interesting tidbits and odd things about time and history to my attention. If you are also attracted to the interesting and bizarre, you will want to take a quick read through some of my favorites.

New experiences really do seem to spend more time in the memory than familiar ones. This is why childhood summers seem to go on forever, while old age slips by while we’re dozing. It’s called the “oddball effect”, explaining why time feels like it’s going faster as you get older — because more stuff is familiar to you. The more familiar the world becomes, the less information your brain needs to write down, and the more quickly time seems to pass.

Time passes slower the faster you move. If you flew to the star Sirius at 99% of the speed of light, then flew back again, the people you left behind on Earth would have aged more than 17 years. But…
