Modern Instant Accomplishment
Somehow, our society has evolved into a culture of instant rewards and shortcuts. We could discuss why for ages, but a short journey through my past will give you a glimpse of the instant rewards I sought and how I am working with it now.
I have collected books for decades. When I was a teenager the first self help book I bought was Napoleon Hill’s — Think and Grow Rich. With a teenagers excitement I read it 3 times that first week I had it.
That started me into the thinking that I just need to think and I would have instantaneous results. Like the instant society that we have and are living through. Over the past 40 years, my daily work has been consumed with the underlying thinking of “all I need to do is think” and the thought becomes real.
After absorbing many self help courses through the years I still believed that my mind is capable of miracles — instant miracles for the most part. I remember buying a book from a magazine ad in 1973 (before the internet) called “The Lazy Mans way to Riches” by Joe Karbo. I wrote down what I wanted totally believing I would get those wishes fast. A week and a month later and nothing happened. My thoughts and actions moved on. Marriage came along and my…
