Into the Depths of the New World

A Poem From They who have Been There

I rest at the edge of forever under a sullen sky
And notice the birds of freedom have fallen silent
I look into the distance which pulls me with the light
Of forgotten freedoms…

the great cavern of empty lies before me. I want to build
a bridge crossing that empty — it looks so distant.

The memory of ancient crossings faintly whisper
It is not as distant as it looks.

Few are those who crossed throughout time
Many have been halted and dropped away.

Yet there have also been the bold and fearless ones
That have stepped into the empty
With the wings of eagles as their partners
And have shown the world — they can.

Looking up and forward, never down
They moved with infinite restlessness.
Their steps at first hesitant became strides of power.

They too saw that light of freedom
That sparkled afar over the land of empty.
They too felt the comfort of…
