Hi Bill
" A great thing about knowing ourselves…..we will care less of what others think" What a great response to someone questioning us about our beliefs. Do they care or are they looking for something to challenge. Being comfortable with who I believe I am becomes the biggest defence to challenge I have come across.
I like your point of "how do I respond when people say how are you" - When I reply "wonderful" some are taken aback - What? - that makes no sense to many…. You make it clear you are comfortable with yourself and that commands respect.
You ask "Is it possible for us to become that detached from what we assume other people think?" - to not allow others to influence etc. Yes, age has a tremendous influence on my response. I find as time moves on, there is less and less need to even tell others what I feel or think . Far better to hear about their thoughts. And then - voila! - attention moves elsewhere and I am able to build further on my beliefs.
Enough on that - I love your statement "The main point of this article is that the better you understand who you are, the less you worry about what others think, and the more you can be true to yourself." How telling - thank you for that.
Bill - your reminders of the bits of wisdom all around us are inspiring - I look forward to hearing more………..Zidor
