Freedom was once a plaything of the gods
Formidable in its idea, Broken in its practice.
Would that the mistakes of the past were heeded
Yet along we did go with no one to back us.

For we as a people once knelt at the feet of
The leaders who said our interests were theirs.
Then that kneeling brought with it religion and power
With power those leaders then took over affairs.

Who established themselves that they were the heirs
To all that was given, all the wisdom and glory
They forgot we the people built those castles in air.

No longer did freedom even come into thinking
For as we all know once the strange becomes common
It grows old and the freedom we had began sinking.

We now bow down to power which tells us to listen
And must answer with passion — how high shall we leap?
For yes we know nothing and they…
